The Saltaire

Sand, Sun, + Fun on Fire Island

The Saltaire is a modern transformation and restoration of a vacation home located steps away from the beaches of Fire Island. The multiphase project included the gut renovation and complete interior redesign of the main house and adjacent bunk house; the architectural restoration of the building exteriors; and the addition of an outdoor shower, deck, bike racks, and privacy fencing. The existing entry porch was converted into a multifunction game and sitting room; an existing family room was transformed into an oversized daybed nook; and opaque walls in the formal living room were opened up with window walls and French doors to bathe the space in sunlight. Built for durability to withstand the humid sea-salt environment and hurricane-prone coast on the exterior, the Saltaire interior is a calming balance of sandy neutral tones, hardwood and canvas textures, and cozy family spaces.
